This week, as part of the school Drug Safety Week we have been investigating the effects of smoking on our bodies and wallets!
We we have discovered some of the many nasty chemicals and ingredients that form a cigarette. Did you know that a chemical found in rat poision is also found in a cigarette? We also learnt about tar, which is normally found on our roads but can also be found on a smoker's lungs and is a main cause of lung and throat cancer!
We used sticky treacle to explore what tar does to a smoker's body. Unlike water, when treacle was put onto a sponge all the wholes were quickly filled and the treakle could not be washed or cleaned easily. The whole class was shocked by what we learnt and are determined to keep their lungs and the rest of their bodies healthy.
