Overall Progress
See attached tracking summaries for individual class progress summaries across the year.
A new writing curriculum was rolled out in Spring Term to address the recent dip in attainment. This is in line with new Ofsted Research on best practice in teaching writing. Early feedback from teachers and pupils is positive and a recent book look indicates that the new curriculum better meets the needs of our pupils. It is too early to see any impact from these changes.
In the coming year, timetabling changes will allow transcriptional skills of handwriting and spelling to be taught consistently to remove this barrier to children achieving expected level.
Phonics outcomes (68%) in 2024 are similar to 2023 and below local and national (79% in 2023 - current year data unavailable until October) and included two children still being taught in reception awaiting specialist provision. Phonics continues to be a priority in 2024-2025. Challenges continue with the lack of space to allow pupils to be taught in groups according to ability daily (impacted by use of hall for other things). Catch-up interventions are scheduled but are impacted by the number of high-need pupils in Year 1 who need 1:1 support for periods throughout the afternoon. In Autumn 2 and Spring 1, a Catch-Up tutor was employed to support progress. This had a good impact as intervention happened daily without interruption and 67% of these 14 pupils who received tutoring are now on track.
KS2
In reading, outcomes were slightly lower than 2023 but in line with national. Boys performance was slightly lower than girls and disadvantaged pupils lower than all pupils. Disadvantaged not SEND pupils performed significantly better than all pupils.
In writing, outcomes were lower than national average. Improving outcomes in writing will continue to be a target in 2024-2025.
In maths, outcomes were in line with national with no significant disparity between groups.
