We have been celebrating Chinese New Year this week in 4W.

We started by learning about the country China and then performed the zodiac animal story. We even wrote diary entries for some of the characters. Using the Ipads, we researched the typical personalities of our zodiac animals. Some of us were similar and some people were completely different to their zodiac animal.

On Friday, the whole school celebrated together in a big assembly, carried out by 5M. The best part was the Chinese dragon that danced around the hall and said hello to lots of the children in the hall. The dragon was controlled by two visitors to the school, they were fantastic! They even carried out Kung Fu lessons with the children in years 5 & 6.

On Friday afternoon, as 2017 is the year of the rooster, we painted our own. However, we didn't do it in the typical way using paint brushes, but the back of a plastic fork. The fork created lines of paint that looked like feathers. We decided to use bright colours to make our roosters stand out even more. Year 5 also visited us and taught us some Chinese as they have lessons once a week over Skype with a teacher who lives in Beijing. How exciting! They planned a great lesson with singing and dancing too. In addition to all of these fantastic things we had the chance to look at and hold some beautiful, handmade Chinese artefacts.

We hope everyone had a great Chinese New Year!
