Year 1

We have been busy measuring in year 1L this week. We have used rulers and cubes to measure different things in our classroom like our tables, books, whiteboards and even our feet!! We have used a table to record our findings. 

Today we have been busy collecting leaves to make a collage. Look out for pictures of our Autumn display!

Our topic is what toys were famous when um and dad were little? 

This week we had a look at a toy from over 100 years ago that our grandparents grandparents may have played with. It was a ball and a cup.

We made a repeating pattern using shapes and paint this week. Hassan had a blue circle, orange square, blue circle, orange square pattern. 

This week in maths we were looking at 2D shapes. Miss Law gave us some shapes and a shape we had to fill using the shapes. Some shapes we used were squares, rectangles, circles, pentagons and hexagons to name a few. 

Year 1 became scientist for an afternoon and had a slimetastic time.  Equipt with safety glassess and equipment the children mixed soultions and added colour to create some delightful looking slime. They even impressed the mad scientist when coming up with other polymers like slime - elastic bands…

The children in Y1W have been using their imaginations to decide what their NOT A STICKS are! See if you can tell what the children are using. They range from hats to back scratchers!

We have been very busy this week counting in 1L. We have been using numicon, quizanare and lots of other counting materials.  Today we had a go at snakes and ladders. We were able to count and get to the finish. The biggest number was 50! Everyone has their own counter and we shared a dice. We…

mad scientist Luna came to our class today. We made slime by mixing solutions and colour. We talked about other polymers such as skin and elastic bands because they are stretchy. To keep our eyes safe we used safety glasses.  

The door of mercy came to our school. We had a special assembly and we all walked through the holy door.
